South African songstress Amber Fieldgate has spent the majority of the last two years focusing on her studies, but that hasn’t stopped her from stepping into the limelight every now and again and entertaining audiences with her soothing vocals.
Last year, she performed at the Old Mutual Sunset Concert at Bryanston Country Club and it appears the 19-year-old left a lasting impression. Organisers have once again invited the rising star to perform at their inaugural sunset concerts and this time she will be opening for The Voice SA finalist Gavin Edwards, as well as performing some original music.
She says, “Fans can expect a much longer set than previously. I’ll be performing a 45 minute set as opposed to a 15 minute set. I will also be performing 2 original songs so I’m really excited to show those to the world.”
A fan of The Voice SA star, Fieldgate admires Edwards and everything he has achieved, looking to him for sound advise and inspiration.
“I think Gavin’s voice is unique and I absolutely loved his audition on The Voice,” she admits.
Asked if she would ever consider collaborating with the singer, she affirms, “I would definitely be keen, I think our voices would work really well together.”
Indie Does It: How have you grown as a person and an artist over the last year?
Amber Fieldgate: This past year has definitely been one of my best with regards to my growth. I feel like I have matured a bit and that I am slowly but surely growing into young adult, I’ve stepped out of my comfort zone and have started writing a lot more, I have really let my fear of rejection go and have experimented as an artist and as a person in general.
Indie Does It: What have you been up to this past year?
Amber Fieldgate: I have been very quiet this past year as I have been focusing on my studies and my personal life. When I returned from America I felt a bit stuck and didn’t really know what direction to follow. I know what I want I just sometimes struggle to get there.
I joined a singing academy called the Jolanda Bekker Vocal Lab and my teacher Jolanda has been constantly pushing me and building me up, which I am so grateful for. I also joined my University’s Psychology society so I’ve been learning and volunteering and I feel very strongly about one day getting my degree.
Indie Does It: What was your favourite part of last year’s event and what are you most looking forward to this year?
Amber Fieldgate: My favourite part was definitely the support, people were dancing and singing along and I really enjoyed the vibe. I’m really looking forward to the crowd and just having a good time doing what I love.
Indie Does It: Any chance of releasing some original music in the near future?
Amber Fieldgate: Im hoping to release some tracks soon but nothing has been confirmed, keep an eye out though!
