Movie Review: Southpaw

Everybody endures pain and suffering in their life, but some have it harder than others. Esteemed boxer Billy Hope (Jake Gyllenhaal) is one such person, finding himself in a deep depression after tragedy befalls his family and things really hit home when the custody of his daughter comes into play.

Billy will have to get his life back on track if he wants to keep his daughter safe. Southpaw is a hard-hitting drama about a man at his weakest and his strength to overcome and rise to the occasion, both inside and outside the ring.

Rachel McAdams stars as Billy’s wife and, once again, puts on a credible performance. Based on the subject matter, the film is particularly violent, but it is essentially a story of hope.
