Movie Review: McFarland

McFarland tells the trying true story of American football coach Jim White (Kevin Costner) who, after being let off for anger management issues, moves to a predominantly Latino school in California farming district Central Valley. Here, he notices the boys’ exceptional running ability and starts a cross-country team, but running is not what these parents had envisioned for their boys.

Together, they learn some of life’s most valuable lessons as family relationships begin to evolve and their unwavering commitment leads them to their American dream. It is a heart-warming story, with great actors. It shows the power of hard work and dedication and how it transformed these young farmers into champions, despite their background. The boys, in turn, tame the coach’s wild spirit – this is one of Costner’s best performances – teaching him the importance of family and finally giving him a place to call home.
